About SWCTE

The Southwest Area Career and Technical Education Academy (SWCTE) connects students across southwest North Dakota with hands on learning, real world experiences, and opportunities to discover their future. Located in Dickinson, SWCTE serves students from seven high schools, and homeschool settings. 

SWCTE offers a broad range of career pathways, including agriculture, construction and architecture, automotive and diesel technology, heavy equipment operation, commercial driving, welding, business, computer science and cybersecurity, health sciences, culinary arts, education, human services, public safety, and military careers. Through classroom instruction, industry equipment, and meaningful projects, students build technical knowledge alongside the communication, teamwork, problem solving, and leadership skills needed in any profession.

Partnerships are at the heart of our work. Local businesses, industry professionals, colleges, community organizations, and school districts help shape our programs and connect learning to workforce needs. These relationships provide opportunities for guest speakers, industry tours, job shadows, work based learning, and experiences that bring careers to life. Eligible students can also earn college credit and industry recognized credentials, giving them a head start on their next step.

At SWCTE, students have opportunities to explore their interests, discover their strengths, and apply what they learn in authentic settings. Career and technical student organizations, leadership activities, competitions, and community service further enrich their experience and help them develop confidence and a sense of purpose.

Whether students plan to enter the workforce, pursue a technical certificate or college degree, serve in the military, or start a business, SWCTE helps them move forward with the skills, connections, and direction to succeed. Together with our partners, we are expanding opportunities for students and building the future of southwest North Dakota.
